Marco Calliari est né au Québec, mais il n'a jamais oublié ses racines italiennes. En grandissant dans sa famiglia,  il a été entouré des mélodies de l'opéra, jusqu'à 14 ans, où il a commencé à suivre un son très différent : sauvage, criant, heavy métal! C’est à ce moment qu'il fonde, avec ses amis, un des groupes métal les plus intéressants du Québec, "Anonymus". En 2006, après plus de 15 ans et cinq albums solides, Marco termine cette aventure musicale importante pour se consacrer entièrement sur sa propre carrière solo grandissante, qu'il a débutée en 2003.

Son premier album de composition, Che La Vita, se veut festif et touche ce qui peut être appelé la Musique du Monde, le Jazz manouche, avec un  soupçon de poésie. Toutes les paroles et la musique sont écrites par Marco - le tout en italien. Che Vita La s’est vendu à plus de 25 000 copies dans un environnement principalement francophone.

Après ce grand succès, Marco a enregistré son deuxième album solo Mia Dolce Vita, dans lequel il interprète ses propres versions de chansons italiennes traditionnelles, y compris L'italiano, Bella Ciao et L'Americano. Sorti en novembre 2006, l'album, jusqu'à présent, s’est écoulé à plus de 45 000 copies au Québec. L'interprétation de Marco du classique L'Americano a été choisie pour une compilation Putumayo appelée Italia 2, sortie en 2009. Un remix de MC MARIO est en un peu partout en 2010.

En 2007, l'industrie commence à reconnaître le talent de Marco, lui attribuant le Prix Étoiles Galaxie (CBC) pendant le Festival de Musiques Émergentes de Rouyn-Noranda (2004) et en 2005, la bourse RIDEAU. En 2005 et 2007, Marco Calliari était parmi les nominés du Gala de l'ADISQ dans la catégorie « Album de l'année – Musique du Monde ».

L'été 2008 a vu Marco animer la soirée de gala d’ouverture des Francofolies de Montréal avec une variété d'artistes invités, retransmise en direct sur TV5 Monde. Il a aussi été invité à participer à un spectacle très spécial, aux côtés de certains des plus grands artistes du Québec, devant des dignitaires et un auditoire de presque un million de personnes, pour les célébrations du 400ème anniversaire de la Ville de Québec!

En septembre 2008, Marco Calliari sort une nouvelle compilation de ses deux premiers albums pour le marché européen, distribué en France,  Suisse, Italie et en Allemagne. En tournée en Europe, il s'est produit dans de grands stades à Florence et Milan avec Bandabardò, célèbres pour leurs spectacles festifs. Depuis, Marco se promène entre le Canada, l'Europe et New York, explorant de nouveaux horizons.

Pendant tous ces voyages, Marco Calliari trouve l’inspiration pour son troisième album. En février 2009, il va s’enfermer dans un chalet d’ancien gardien de phare, à Cap D’espoir, en Gaspésie. Il s’y consacre à l’écriture et la composition. Un an plus tard, après une pré-prod minutieuse, débute l’enregistrement en mars 2010. 40 sessions de studio sur 4 mois. Une trentaine de musiciens. Le tout orchestré par le réalisateur de renom, Stacy Le Gallee. L’album s’intitule : « Al Faro Est » (au phare est) et sort le 5 octobre 2010 au Canada. On y retrouve 2 invités précieux : Nedjim Bouizzoul (Labess), un algérien installé à Montréal et Enrico Greppi (Bandabardò), de Florence en Italie. Le nouveau spectacle « Al Faro Est »  est en tournée cet automne au Québec et la rentrée montréalaise est prévue pour le 23 mars 2011. On y découvrira à nouveau le talent et l’énergie légendaire de Marco Calliari.

Le réputé DJ québécois MC Mario lance son remix d’une interprétation de Marco Calliari de « L’Americano » (Mia Dolce Vita). Succès de l’été 2010 sur les radios, dans les clubs et suscitant un vif intérêt à l’international, en Grande Bretagne et en Allemagne, le remix du clip compte à ce jour plus de 500 000 visionnements sur YouTube!

Nato da genitori italiani, non è con la canzone napoletana che ha incominciato a cinguettare quest’uccellino raro, dai gusti e talenti musicali dei più eclettici. Nel 1989, a 14 anni, sceglie piuttosto l’heavy métal! Fonda allora con altri accoliti il gruppo Anonymus, una formazione musicale tra le più interessanti del genere in Québec.

Nel 2004, Marco Calliari si tuffa in una nuova avventura con un pugno di complici dell’ultima ora che, con percussioni, ottoni, e altri singolari strumenti, creano con lui i colori e le eclatanti atmosfere della sua musica. È François Lalonde (Jean Leloup, Lhasa de Sela, Dobacaracol, Mara Tremblay) che firma la realizzazione de Che la vita… Un album che fa festa ai confini della musica del mondo, del jazz e della canzone d’autore. Marco scrive le musiche e i testi interamente in italiano. Dalla sua apparizione, nel 2004, più di 25 000 copie di Che la vita, sono state vendute in un mercato tipicamente francofono.

Dopo questo successo le cose prendono un ritmo frenetico. Nell’estate 2006, Marco Calliari divide la scena con il mitico gruppo americano Calexico al Festival d’estate del Québec e conquista la folla nel gran palcoscenico delle Francofolies di Montreal. In luglio parte per l’Europa per una tournee di nove spettacoli in Italia, seguita da altri concerti in Belgio, Francia e Svizzera. Sempre nel 2006 Marco registra il suo secondo album, Mia Dolce Vita, dove interpreta nel suo stile particolare i grandi successi della canzone tradizionale italiana come O Sole Mio, Bella Ciao e Tu vuò fa L’Americano. Quest’album, apparso nel novembre 2006 ha conosciuto un gran successo con più di 45 000 copie vendute solo in Canada.

Anche l’industria musicale ha voluto riconoscere il talento dell’artista attribuendogli il premio Étoiles Galaxie (Radio-Canada) al Festival delle musiche emergenti di Rouyn-Noranda nel 2004, poi nel 2005 quello della Bourse RIDEAU. Inoltre nel 2005 e nel 2007, Marco Calliari figurava tra i candidati al Gala de l’ADISQ nella categoria “Album dell’anno – Musiche del mondo “.

Marco ha partecipato ben due volte alla manifestazione molto popolare delle Festività per il 400e anniversario di fondazione della città di Québec, nell’ambito dello spettacolo Rencontres, diffuso attraverso il mondo. Una raccolta DVD / CD delle festività è attualmente in vendita in Quebec. È stato inoltre invitato come artista ospite all’apertura delle Francofolies de Montréal nel 2008. Lo spettacolo è stato trasmesso sulle onde di TV5 monde!

Nel settembre 2008 Marco Calliari ha pubblicato il suo primo album in Francia, Svizzera e Germania: l'opera omonima consiste in una compilation di brani dai primi due album. In tournée europea, Marco si è esibito negli stadi di Firenze e Milano assieme alla Bandabardò, gruppo celebre per i loro spettacoli festosi. Da allora Marco si divide fra il Canada, l'Europa e New York, sempre esplorando nuovi orizzonti.

Durante questi viaggi, Marco Calliari trova l’ispirazione per il suo terzo album. Nel febbraio 2009, a Cap D’espoir in Gaspésie, nella casa del vecchio guardiano del faro, Marco si dedica alla scrittura e alla composizione dei nuovi pezzi. Un anno più tardi, dopo una meticolosa pre-produzione, comincia la registrazione nel marzo 2010, la registrazione. 40 sessioni in studio in 4 mesi, 30 musicisti. Il tutto orchestrato da una produzione di tutto rispetto, quella di Stacy Le Gallee. L’album, intitolato “Al Faro Est” uscirà in Canada il 5 ottobre 2010. Ospiti d’eccezione, il musicista algerino-montrealese Nedjim Bouzzoul (Labess) ed Enrico Greppi della Bandabardò. Il nuovo spettacolo “Al Faro Est” sarà in tournée quest’autunno in Québec; il concerto finale a Montréal è previsto per il 23 marzo 2011. Scopriremo di nuovo il talento e l’energia leggendaria di Marco Calliari.

Intanto, il DJ quebecchese MC Mario lancia il suo remix di “L’Americano”, nell’interpretazione di Marco Calliari (Mia Dolce Vita), successo dell’estate 2010 nelle radio e in discoteca, e che ha suscitato un vivo interesse internazionale in Gran Bretagna e in Germania. Marco Calliari was born in Quebec, but he has never strayed far from his Italian roots. Growing up with his famiglia, he was surrounded with the melodies of the opera, until at age 14, he began to follow a very different sound: wild, screaming heavy metal!  It is at that time that he co-founded, with his friends, one of the most interesting metal groups in Quebec, “Anonymus”. In 2006, after more than 15 years and five solid albums, Marco ended this important musical adventure to fully throw himself into his own thriving solo career, which he began to pursue in 2003.

His first composition a festive album, Che La Vita, borders what can be called World Music, Jazz, poetic music, with all the lyrics and music written by Marco -- and all in Italian. Che La Vita has sold over 25 000 copies in a primarily French speaking environment.

After this ground breaking success, Marco recorded his second solo album Mia Dolce Vita, in which he remakes his own versions of traditional Italian songs, including L’italiano, Bella Ciao and L’Americano. Released in November 2006, the album, to date, has sold over 45 000 copies in Quebec. Marco’s interpretation of the classic L’Americano has been selected for a Putumayo compilation called Italia 2, released in 2009. A remix by MC MARIO hits the air 2010 on Mix 96.
In 2007, the industry began to recognize Marco’s talent, awarding him the Prix Étoiles Galaxie (CBC) during the Emerging Music Festival in Rouyn-Noranda (2004), and in 2005, the bourse RIDEAU event (The Independent Network of United Artistic Events Promoters). In 2005 and 2007, Marco Calliari was among the nominees at the Gala de l’ADISQ in the “Album of the year – World music” category.

Summer 2008 saw Marco host the opening night of the Francofolies of Montreal with a variety of musical guests, and was broadcast live on TV5 World.  He also was invited to perform in a very special show, side-by-side with some of Quebec’s greatest artists, in front of dignitaries and an audience of nearly one million people, as part of the 400th anniversary of Quebec City celebrations!

In September 2008, Marco Calliari released a new compilation of his first two records for the European market, distributed in France, Switzerland, Italy and Germany. Touring in Europe, he performed in large stadiums in Florence and Milan with Bandabardò, famed for their lively stage shows. Since then Marco is going back and forth between Canada, Europe and New York exploring new grounds.

During these travels, Marco Calliari found inspiration for his third album. In February 2009, he isolated himself at the far end of Gaspésie. In Cap d’Espoir, at a lighthouse keeper’s old cottage, he devoted himself to writing and composing. One year later, following a meticulous pre-production phase, Calliari recorded his new album in March, 2010, which included 40 studio sessions over four months, with the help of 30 musicians, and the production of internationally-known Stacy Le Gallee, which gave the new album a warm, organic sound. The new release is titled “Al Faro Est” (“At the Eastern Lighthouse”) and will be available in Canada on October 5, 2010. The album features two precious guests: the Algerian-born Montreal singer Nedjim Bouizzoul (Labess), and Enrico Greppi from the Italian band Bandabardò. The new album will make you rediscover all of Marco Calliari’s legendary energy.

Quebec-famous DJ MC Mario has remixed Marco’s interpretation of “L’Americano” (from Mia Dolce Vita). The remix was one of the hits of the summer of 2010, was aired in clubs and radios, and generated interest abroad in the UK and Germany. To date, the video of the remix counts over 500,000 times on YouTube.
